Assistive Technology Reduces Barriers to Learning!

MPUSD has assembled an Assistive Technology Team to support students who experience barriers to learning that can be accommodated through the use of various tools. The team is comprised of occupational therapist and speech and language pathologist who have received training to evaluate adaptive tools and technologies to determine the least invasive support that can be used to ensure students are progressing within the curriculum of their individual program!

Assistive Technology comprises low tech, mid tech, and high tech supports. This may include: manual core boards and communication books, object boards, static display voice output systems, dynamic display voice output systems, switches, audiobooks, and Chrome learning extensions.

Assessment for AT/AAC services is a robust process of feature matching the unique language, environmental, physical, and academic considerations of each student to an appropriate AAC or AT system. The process is iterative, collaborative, and designed to meet each student where they are, in order to move them forward.
